2017 Ram ProMaster 2500
Reliability tier: verified - see /disclosure/
Engine: 3.6L Pentastar V6 (gasoline) (Chrysler 3.6L Pentastar V6, 3.6L)
280 hp @ 6,400 / 260 lb-ft @ 4,400, 62TE 6-speed automatic. Wheelbase (118 / 136 / 159-in) and roof height are body choices, not engine variables. The MY2021 refresh brands the engine 'Pentastar Upgrade'. The 2024 ProMaster EV is an electric powertrain - out of scope.
Applicable failure modes (6)
- Cooling: water pump, thermostat housing and coolant bottle leaks
- Fuel delivery: pump module, hard start and stall cluster
- Ignition: spark plugs and coil-on-plug misfires
- Plastic oil filter/coolant housing-adapter leak (the signature Pentastar leak)
- Cam/crank position sensors and cam phaser actuator
- 'Pentastar tick': rocker arms, hydraulic lash adjusters, cam damage

Platform recipes (4)
- Hard start, stall or cam/crank correlation codes on the 3.6 ProMaster: battery first, then live cam/crank data and the phaser solenoid, then the sensor the code points to (mode fm-pm36-sensors)
- Coolant loss on the 3.6 ProMaster: pressure-test and check the weep hole, the plastic thermostat housing and the coolant bottle in order, then replace what leaks (mode fm-pm36-cooling-leaks)
- The signature Pentastar repair: replace the cracked/weeping plastic adapter-housing with the updated housing (or an aluminum aftermarket unit), new gaskets and o-rings, correct torque
- The 'Pentastar tick' path: compression/leak-down first (rule out the pre-ProMaster 2011-2013 head issue and exhaust leaks), then rockers and lash adjusters, cam replacement only where a lobe is damaged
