Recipe - Ram ProMaster 3.6L Pentastar V6 (2014-2025)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
The signature Pentastar repair: replace the cracked/weeping plastic adapter-housing with the updated housing (or an aluminum aftermarket unit), new gaskets and o-rings, correct torque. Bundled with the oil service - the valley job pays for the bundle.
Parts
- 3.6 Pentastar Oil Filter Adapter / Coolant Housing (68596317AB, current) - the housing itself - the fix (qty 1)
- 3.6 Pentastar Oil Cooler Gasket (68618737AA, current) - new gasket, never reused (qty 1)
- 3.6 Pentastar Housing O-Ring Kit (68191356AB, current) - single-use o-rings (qty 1)
- 3.6 Pentastar Engine Oil Cooler (68635384AA, current) - cooler core when clogged/leaking (qty 1)
- 3.6 Pentastar Housing Cap Kit (68191350AA) - fresh caps - the over-torqued cap caused the crack (qty 1)
- 3.6 Pentastar Oil Filter Kit (68191349AC, current) - fresh filter on the refill (qty 1)
Install order
- degrease and confirm the leak source: oil tracked to the bellhousing from the valley (not the rear main); coolant weep at the housing
- housing out; compare against the replacement - note the coolant tubes and oil lines
- new housing (updated/aluminum) with new gaskets and o-rings at correct torque
- cooler core and caps if scored/cracked
- oil service with a fresh filter; refill coolant and bleed
Expected outcome
Valley stays dry; coolant level holds; no oil tracking to the bellhousing.
Parts budget
About $280-$1,300 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
