Recipe - Ram ProMaster 3.6L Pentastar V6 (2014-2025)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
The 'Pentastar tick' path: compression/leak-down first (rule out the pre-ProMaster 2011-2013 head issue and exhaust leaks), then rockers and lash adjusters, cam replacement only where a lobe is damaged.
Parts
- 3.6 Pentastar Rocker Arm (5184296AH, current) - the tick item per cylinder (qty 1)
- 3.6 Pentastar Hydraulic Lash Adjuster (5184332AA) - replace with the rocker (qty 1)
- 3.6 Pentastar Camshaft, intake (68172837AA) - advanced cases with a damaged lobe (qty 1)
Install order
- locate the tick per cylinder (hose/stethoscope); rule out exhaust leaks
- compression and leak-down before opening the valvetrain
- valve cover off: inspect rockers, lash adjusters and the cam lobe at the suspect cylinder
- rocker + lash adjuster replacement (pair, never one alone)
- cam replacement where the lobe is damaged
Expected outcome
Tick gone; compression holds across cylinders.
Parts budget
About $45-$1,150 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
