Failure mode - Ram ProMaster 3.6L Pentastar V6 (2014-2025)

'Pentastar tick': rocker arms, hydraulic lash adjusters, cam damage

Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/

Root cause

Rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters wear and tick; a failed follower can chew its cam lobe. An FCA class action (filed January 2022, Delaware) alleges a valvetrain defect across 3.6 Pentastar vehicles - documentary context for the pattern. The 2011-2013 left-cylinder-head cracking issue predates the ProMaster (the van only ever carried the updated post-2013 head) - but the tick diagnosis still starts with a compression/leak-down test before condemning the valvetrain.
