FPDM (fuel pump driver module) corrosion / failure

Symptoms

sudden power loss or stall while driving, then fine after sitting (the classic FPDM signature)
cranks but no start; fuel pump never primes; random self-recovery
corrosion visible on the module / connector at the frame rail

Root cause

The FPDM sits exposed on the frame rail; road salt wicks into the connector and the module's electronics corrode until the pump drive drops out intermittently. VOQ is structurally silent ('stalls / no start' complaints collide with every other no-start cause) and no SD/E-series TSB names the module - the mode is community/vendor knowledge with a mature replacement market, published aggregated.

Diagnosis

capture the fault state when dead: does the pump prime? FPDM connector condition
inspect the module and connector at the frame rail for corrosion intrusion
replace module AND any corroded pigtail section, or it recurs

Fixes

replace the FPDM (match by VIN; Motorcraft DY-1165 covers the 2004-2008 window) and repair any corroded harness section (module + harness) - cheap part, quick job; the harness section is what makes it stick
