IDM (injector driver module) failure

Symptoms

dead/multiple dead holes or no-start with good oil pressure data
moisture corrosion found at the IDM connector (fender-mounted box)
DTCs pointing at injector circuit(s)

Compare with the other causes of the same sign on this engine: hard start, long crank or no-start (7 causes) · misfire, rough idle, hesitation or surging (4 causes)

Root cause

The fender-mounted IDM drives the HEUI injectors; internal solder/age faults and water intrusion at the connector drop injectors. Less common than CPS/UVCH but always on the 7.3 checklist.

Diagnosis

injector-circuit DTCs + good ICP/IRP data points IDM-side
swap-test or inspect the IDM connector for corrosion (under-hood fender location takes water)
check wiring before replacing the module
