2V plug maintenance: keep plugs from ejecting; know the repair path if a seat is damaged. The 2V plug-ejection problem is mostly a torque-and-corrosion problem: plugs over-torqued or corrosion-seized let go under cylinder pressure. Correct-torque service on the interval, fresh plugs (AGSF-22W-MX) and a known repair path (Ford's own thread-repair procedure, TSB 07212 + insert kits) keep it a non-event.
Parts
- Spark Plugs, 2V heads (Motorcraft SP-479 / Ford AGSF-22W-MX) - fresh plugs at the correct spec - the ejection risk is highest on old, over-torqued, corrosion-seated plugs (qty 1)
- Spark Plug Thread Repair Kit, 2V heads (Time-Sert / Calvan 38900-class) - the repair path if a seat strips during service or a plug has already blown (qty 1)
Install order
- Blow out the plug wells; work plugs loose slowly on a warm-soak engine, never force a seized plug.
- Install new plugs at the factory-specified torque - hand tools, calibrated wrench, no impact guns.
- If a seat stripped or a plug blew out earlier: insert-repair per the kit maker's instructions (the path Ford's TSB 07212 documents), then the new plug.
- Record the service - future shops need the plug history.
Expected outcome
No ejections; seats stay reusable; a known repair path if damage already exists.
Do not
- Do NOT over-torque plugs 'to be safe' - over-torque is a cause of ejection and stripped seats, not a cure.
- Do NOT re-use corroded old plugs during any other job.
- Do NOT ignore a ticking manifold leak - it masquerades as a plug problem (and vice versa).
