Recipe - Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 3.0L V6 (2014-2019)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: verified - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Stall / no-start job for the 3.0L EcoDiesel (mode Crankshaft tone-wheel delamination and engine stall (recalls 20V-475 / 23V-411)): the crankshaft tone wheel delaminates and drops sync (recalls 20V-475 / 23V-411). The campaigns' remedy is FREE SOFTWARE - a PCM update that keeps propulsion alive on the camshaft signal. Hardware (sensor, tone wheel) only enters when the wheel actually shed.
Parts
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Crankshaft Position Sensor (Mopar 68102341AA, 2014-2019) - crankshaft position sensor 68102341AA - destroyed by a dislodged tone wheel; the cheap first hardware step (qty 1)
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Crankshaft Tone Wheel / Reluctor (Mopar 68493358AA) - tone wheel 68493358AA - the mechanical repair when the wheel delaminated (flexplate-side labor) (qty 1)
Install order
- check BOTH campaigns by VIN - 20V-475 (W58) and its 2023 expansion 23V-411 (66A) cover the full 2014-2019 run; the software update is free
- stall + crank-sensor codes with intact harness: inspect the tone wheel (flexplate side) before replacing sensors
- sensor damaged by debris: replace the sensor first, re-test
- wheel confirmed delaminated: tone wheel replacement (transmission-side access) + fresh sensor
Expected outcome
Parts budget
About $40-$130 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
