Recipe - Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 3.0L V6 (2014-2019)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: verified - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
CP4.2 cascade protocol for the 3.0L EcoDiesel (mode Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure pump failure (recall 22V-406)): P0087 family codes, hard start, metal in the system. Check recall 22V-406 (FCA Z46) by VIN first - it replaces the pump and inspects the fuel system. The debris check decides everything: metal found = full cascade, no metal = metering-valve/sensor diagnostics first.
Parts
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Fuel Filter Element Kit (Mopar 68235275AA, 2014-2019) - filter element kit 68235275AA (2014-2019) - the debris check AND the cheapest prevention (qty 1)
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Fuel Pump Metering Valve (Mopar 68248412AA, 2014-2019) - metering valve 68248412AA - the fuel-starvation diagnostic step before condemning the pump (qty 1)
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Fuel Pressure Sensor (Mopar 68247772AA, 2014-2019) - fuel pressure sensor 68247772AA - rail-pressure signal check (P0087 path) (qty 1)
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel High-Pressure Fuel Pump - Bosch CP4.2 (Mopar 68211269AA) - CP4.2 pump 68211269AA - metal-free system only; debris means the pump plus the cascade (qty 1)
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Fuel Injector (Mopar 68211302AA, 2014-2019) - injectors 68211302AA per cylinder - replace as a set when the pump shed debris (recall inspection scope) (qty 6)
- Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Lift Pump System (FASS Titanium Signature Series Plus, 2014-2019) - FASS lift pump (aftermarket) - filtration/flow protection for the replacement pump (qty 1)
Install order
- check recall 22V-406 (Z46) status by VIN - the pump replacement may be free; interim letters went out 07/2022
- pull the filter element and inspect for metallic debris BEFORE replacing parts (the whole diagnosis hangs on this)
- no metal: verify the metering valve and pressure sensor path (P0087 electrical/supply side) before ordering the pump
- metal found: pump + injectors + lines flush per the recall inspection scope - do not reuse any high-pressure component
- after repair: strict filter discipline; consider the FASS lift pump for filtration/flow margin
Expected outcome
Parts budget
About $60-$3,500 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
