Failure mode - Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 3.0L V6 (2014-2019)
Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure pump failure (recall 22V-406)
Reliability tier: verified - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Symptoms
- hard start / crank-no-start, rough running, low fuel rail pressure (P0087 family), power loss under load
- catastrophic failure sends metal debris through injectors, rails, lines and tank - the full contamination cascade
- owner reports include remedy pumps failing again ~19 months after the recall replacement
Compare with the other causes of the same sign on this engine: hard start, long crank or no-start (2 causes) · loss of power, limp mode or derate · misfire, rough idle, hesitation or surging · metal in the fuel filter or oil
Root cause
The A630 runs a Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure pump - the same failure family documented for the LML Duramax, 6.7 Power Stroke and the F-150 3.0L on this site. Chrysler recall 22V-406 (FCA campaign Z46, interim letters 07/2022) covers 2014-2019 Ram 1500 diesels: replace the HPFP and inspect/replace contaminated fuel-system components. VOQ cluster: 119 of 1,785 VIN-confirmed diesel complaints (peak 2015-2016).
Diagnosis
- P0087/rail-pressure codes with a dying pump: check the fuel filter for metallic debris BEFORE replacing parts
- metal found = the whole high-pressure side is suspect (pump, injectors, rails, lines) - recall 22V-406 inspection scope
- check 22V-406 completion by VIN before paying out of pocket
Fixes
replace the CP4.2 high-pressure pump (metal-free system only - debris means the full cascade; recall 22V-406/Z46 first) ()
replace contaminated injectors as a set when the pump shed debris ()
strict fuel-filter discipline - check the element for metallic debris at every change ()
- fuel-filter - more than one option: Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Fuel Filter / Water Separator Assembly (Mopar 68197368AE, 2015-2018), Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Fuel Filter Element Kit (Mopar 68235275AA, 2014-2019)
