Recipe - Ford 6.2L Boss Gasoline (Super Duty 2011-2019, SVT Raptor 2010-2014; continued 2020-2022)
Reliability build
Reliability tier: verified - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Ignition service for the 6.2L Boss (mode Ignition service wear (16 plugs / coils)): the SOHC 2v Boss runs TWO plugs per cylinder - lead plugs (CYFS-12-FP) and secondary plugs (HJFS-24FP) - so a full service is 16 plugs, not 8. Coil-on-plug packs swap-test between cylinders before buying. Do the whole set at the 100k interval.
Parts
- 6.2L Boss Spark Plug, lead (OEM) - lead spark plug, one per cylinder pair-side (CYFS-12-FP) (qty 8)
- 6.2L Boss Spark Plug, secondary (OEM) - secondary spark plug (HJFS-24FP) (qty 8)
- 6.2L Boss Ignition Coil (OEM) - ignition coil, swap-test suspect cylinders (8L3Z-12029-A) (qty 1)
- 6.2L Boss Ignition Coil, 2019+ (OEM, per side) - coil, 2019+ PN (HL3Z-12029-B) - confirm the year window (qty 1)
Install order
- read misfire counters per cylinder; a steady miss = one cylinder, random = plugs/interval
- swap the suspect coil to a good cylinder - the miss follows a bad coil
- renew all 16 plugs: 8 lead + 8 secondary, gap per spec, dielectric on the boots
Expected outcome
Clean idle, no misfire counters, no flashing MIL.
Do not
- never single-plug a dual-plug head - replace the pair per cylinder
- do not swap coil PNs across the 2019 boundary without checking the window
Parts budget
About $55-$120 in parts, plus parts we have no price for. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
