Recipe - Cummins 6.7L ISB Diesel (Ram HD, 2019+ generation)

Specific Fix build

Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/

HE300VG VGT turbo repair for 2019+ Ram HD (mode VGT turbo electronic actuator failure (HE300VG family)): the vaned nozzle ring sticks from soot/carbon and the actuator loses position control - limp modes, boost codes, whine. Diagnosis must separate an actuator/vane-control fault from a worn CHRA. The verified OEM listing covers the complete turbo assembly; a standalone actuator listing is still a data gap and is not forced here.

Parts

Install order

  1. confirm the failure mode: stuck vanes (soot) vs actuator electronics vs CHRA wear - boost log + actuator sweep test
  2. try a desoot/cleaning pass first where the truck allows it; many sticking-vane cases clear before any part is ordered
  3. replace the assembly (or the actuator alone if the gap gets filled and diagnosis supports it)
  4. verify boost/control after the swap; check for oil-side root causes (CCV/pressure imbalance)

Expected outcome

Boost and VGT position control back to spec; no limp events under load.

Parts budget

About $1,450-$6,850 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.

DIY or shop: Shop: turbo replacement on a 2019+ HD is an engine-bay-out-or-heavy-access job.
