Symptoms

slap/rattle noise that worsens warm, not just cold

Root cause

The 2V engines drive each head with long chains through plastic guides and spring-fed tensioners; with mileage the guides wear, tensioner travel maxes out and the chain slaps. VOQ and the SD/E-series TSB set are silent - the mode is universal community knowledge with a full aftermarket kit market, published here as aggregated.

Diagnosis

listen for warm-engine slap vs cold-only rattle (chain vs phaser signatures)
inspect chain slack / guide wear with the front cover open on a related job
