Root cause

The 2V engines drive each head with long chains through plastic guides and spring-fed tensioners; with mileage the guides wear, tensioner travel maxes out and the chain slaps. Diagnosis

listen for warm-engine slap vs cold-only rattle (chain vs phaser signatures)
inspect chain slack / guide wear with the front cover open on a related job
