Symptoms
- DEF warnings and countdown derate
- frequent regens on short-trip duty; DPF load messages
- DEF crystallization at the filler/lines

Root cause
The strongest diesel complaint cluster (DEF 4 + DPF/regen 5 of the 23): the SCR hardware is expensive on this van - the DEF tank alone lists at $3,000 - so the diagnosis chain (quality/level sensing, pump, injector, tank last) matters more than usual. Service content only - repaired, never defeated.
Diagnosis
- verify DEF quality and level-sensor behavior first
- read DEF/NOx DTCs front vs rear; inspect for crystallization
- check regen frequency against duty cycle before condemning the DPF
