Failure mode - Ram 6.4L HEMI Gasoline (Ram HD 2019+)
EGR valve carbon (gas EGR service surface)
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Symptoms
- EGR flow / position codes, rough idle or hesitation at light load
- less frequent than on the diesel sibling but recurring at higher mileage
Compare with the other causes of the same sign on this engine: misfire, rough idle, hesitation or surging (3 causes)
Root cause
The 6.4 HD carries a conventional gas EGR system; carbon build-up in the valve/paths is the standard service surface. Retained emissions hardware - service it, never bypass it.
Diagnosis
- read codes and command the valve; verify flow before replacement
- inspect intake-side carbon when the valve is out
Fixes
service: replace the EGR valve / clean paths; keep the system intact and functional ()
