Failure mode - Cummins 6.7L ISB Diesel (Ram HD, 2019+ generation)
Common-rail injector wear (2019+ 6.7)
Reliability tier: verified - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Symptoms
- cold-start rattle and white smoke; uneven idle; rising fuel consumption
- copper washer blow-by soot at the connector tubes
Compare with the other causes of the same sign on this engine: white smoke from the exhaust (3 causes) · ticking, knocking, rattle or whine (3 causes) · misfire, rough idle, hesitation or surging
Root cause
The 2019+ 6.7 keeps Bosch common-rail injectors fed by a CP3; wear shows as balance-rate drift and nozzle carbon, accelerated by tunes and filtration gaps.
Diagnosis
- balance-rate test per cylinder before replacing a set
- inspect connector tubes, copper washers and the CP3 inlet for debris
Fixes
replace worn injector(s); new copper washers/connector-tube seals every time ()
