Underboost or limp episodes on the ProMaster EcoDiesel: smoke-test the charge path before condemning the $1,765 turbo (mode Turbo and charge-air path).

Install order

1. smoke-test the charge piping, including the intercooler and hoses
2. compare boost setpoint against actual under load
3. check the turbo actuator linkage for free movement
4. replace the turbo only when the charge path is tight and boost is still low

Expected outcome

Boost follows setpoint under load, no limp episodes.

• do not buy a turbo before the charge path passes a smoke test
