Recipe - Mercedes-Benz 3.0L V6 Diesel (Sprinter 2007-2022)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Diagnosis-driven EGR/intake service: clean before you replace. The EGR pipe is the service access point; the valve, cooler and changeover flap are the paid upgrades when cleaning is not enough. Emissions hardware is repaired, never defeated.
Parts
- OM642 EGR Valve Gasket (642-142-23-80) - single-use, any valve-off service (qty 1)
- OM642 Intake Manifold Gasket (642-141-05-80) - single-use manifold gasket (qty 1)
- OM642 EGR Valve (642-140-14-60-64) - valve replacement path (pintle no longer seats) (qty 1)
- OM642 EGR Cooler / Heat Exchanger (642-140-21-75, current) - cooler replacement path (plugged/leaking) (qty 1)
- OM642 EGR Changeover Flap (642-140-03-00-64, current) - 2014+ trucks, when DTCs point at the flap (qty 1)
Install order
- read EGR DTCs, command the valve, check position feedback
- EGR pipe off: inspect valve pintle, cooler tubes, intake ports; decide clean vs replace per findings
- cleaning path: decarbonize valve/intake per procedure; new gaskets on reassembly
- valve replacement path (worn pintle)
- cooler replacement path (plugged/leaking)
- 2014+: changeover flap when DTCs point at it
Expected outcome
EGR flow DTCs cleared; cold idle smoothed; intake airflow restored.
Parts budget
About $5-$810 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
