Recipe - Mercedes-Benz 3.0L V6 Diesel (Sprinter 2007-2022)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
BlueTEC DEF/SCR derate (2010+): the countdown is a diagnosis chain, not a parts verdict - DEF quality and level sensing first, then the supply pump, tank hardware last (the big bill). Emissions hardware is repaired, never defeated.
Parts
- Sprinter DEF Supply Pump (002-470-68-94-64) - mid-cost hardware item when the pump is condemned (qty 1)
- Sprinter DEF Tank (906-470-31-15, OM642 era) - last resort: structural damage/crystallization (qty 1)
Install order
- verify DEF quality (fresh fluid, no contamination) and top up; watch whether the countdown stops
- read DEF level/quality sensor DTCs before touching hardware
- supply pump replacement when the pump is condemned
- tank replacement for structural damage/crystallization (rare, big bill)
Expected outcome
Countdown cleared and derate released after the failing item is serviced.
Parts budget
About $600-$2,500 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
