Recipe - Mercedes-Benz 2.1L Twin-Turbo Diesel (Sprinter 2014-2018)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
BlueTEC DEF/SCR derate on the 2.1 (2014-2018): diagnosis chain first - DEF quality and level sensing, then the supply pump, tank last. The facelift hardware is 2.1-specific: the tank does not interchange with the V6 platform. Repaired, never defeated.
Parts
- Sprinter DEF Supply Pump, facelift (000-470-04-00) - mid-cost hardware when the pump is condemned (qty 1)
- Sprinter DEF Tank, 2.1 era (906-470-18-15) - last resort: structural damage/crystallization (qty 1)
Install order
- verify DEF quality and level-sensor behavior; top up and watch the countdown
- inspect for crystallization at the filler neck and lines
- supply pump replacement when the pump is condemned
- tank replacement for structural damage/crystallization
Expected outcome
Countdown cleared and derate released after the failing item is serviced.
Parts budget
About $610-$1,350 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
