Recipe - Mercedes-Benz 2.1L Twin-Turbo Diesel (Sprinter 2014-2018)
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Catch-it-early injector reseal: the copper seal blows by, combustion gas cokes around the injector ('black death'). New seals AND new hold-down bolts every time - reused washers and stretched bolts are how the leak returns. Do it at the first chuff, not after the seat is eaten.
Parts
- OM651 Injector Copper Seal (611-017-00-60) - the copper sealing washer - the actual fix (qty 4)
- OM651 Piezo Injector, exchange (651-070-29-87-64) - only where the injector/seat is damaged (qty 1)
- OM651 Fuel Filter (651-090-31-52) - fresh fuel-side protection on reassembly (qty 1)
Install order
- find the chuffing cylinder by ear (hose/stethoscope at the valve cover under load)
- inspect for black crust around each injector; map how many need resealing
- reseal with NEW copper seals and NEW stretch bolts - never reuse either
- injector replacement only where the seat/injector body is damaged
- fuel filter while the system is open; clear codes and retest under load
Expected outcome
Chuffing gone; no new carbon crust at the reseal points.
Parts budget
About $100-$510 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
