Recipe - Ford 3.5L EcoBoost Gasoline (F-150, Expedition, Transit, Raptor - 2011-present)

Specific Fix build

Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/

Turbo / boost-control service: boost DTCs (P0236/P0238/P0299 family) first, hardware second. Smoke-test the charge system before condemning a turbo; the wastegate-control solenoid is the cheap culprit behind several code sets. Gen3 Raptor/Tremor P0299 has a TSB (22-2198), and the MY2023 right-hand turbo replacement is a field action (23B65) - check coverage before paying.

Parts

Install order

  1. scan boost DTCs; log desired-vs-actual boost under load
  2. smoke-test the charge system (pipes, CAC, clamps) and the wastegate actuator circuit
  3. replace the boost-control solenoid where the code pattern fits (P0236/P0238/P007D family)
  4. on confirmed turbo failure: replace the side, new gaskets and oil-supply check
  5. check 23B65 coverage on MY2023 before ordering the right-hand turbo

Expected outcome

Boost restored with the cheapest matching fix; charge-system leaks and solenoid faults are ruled out before a turbo invoice.

Parts budget

About $65-$990 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
