Recipe - Ford 3.5L EcoBoost Gasoline (F-150, Expedition, Transit, Raptor - 2011-present)

Specific Fix build

Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/

Ignition service for the boost-stressed 3.5L EcoBoost: misfire DTCs first, then plugs and the failed coil(s). Turbo-GDI plugs live a shorter interval than NA engines - gap erosion reads as random misfire under boost. Sort the humid-weather single-event shudder (CAC condensation) out before ordering ignition parts; the coil-swap diagnostic from SSM 50412 (MY2021-2022) applies on Gen3.

Parts

Install order

  1. read misfire DTCs + freeze frames; rule out CAC-condensation (single humid-weather event, multi-cylinder) and fuel-side causes first
  2. pull the misfiring cylinder's coil and plug; inspect gap/erosion and boot condition
  3. swap-test the coil to a neighbor cylinder (SSM 50412 pattern on Gen3) to confirm the coil before replacing
  4. install the plug set on the turbo service interval; replace the confirmed coil(s)
  5. clear adaptives and road-test under boost; re-check fuel trims if the misfire returns

Expected outcome

Misfire resolved without touching injectors or the turbo system; plugs on the correct short interval prevent the recurring boost-misfire cycle.

Parts budget

About $80-$100 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
