Recipe - Cummins 6.7L ISB (Ram HD)

Specific Fix build

Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/

Grid heater bolt fix for a 6.7 Cummins (mode fm-c67-grid-heater-bolt): the intake-grid heater fasteners corrode/shear in the aluminum manifold, causing cold-start smoke, hard starts and an air leak. The fix is updated aftermarket hardware plus a fresh manifold gasket - a small job with an outsized cold-start payoff.

Parts

Install order

  1. confirm the mode: cold-start smoke/hard start + loose or sheared grid heater bolts / air leak at the intake horn
  2. remove the grid heater, extract the sheared/corroded fasteners
  3. install the updated hardware kit and a fresh manifold gasket
  4. inspect the manifold and intake horn while open; order the manifold only if actually damaged

Expected outcome

Intake sealed, grid heater torqued on updated hardware; cold starts without the smoke-and-crank show.

Do not

Estimated cost: $230-$320 parts (BD 1041520 kit $219.95 + gasket at ceiling). · DIY with basic hand tools; extraction of a sheared bolt is the only step that can grow.
