Recipe - Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel
Specific Fix build
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
FICM diagnosis and repair (mode FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module) failure): the Fuel Injection Control Module's 48V rail sags with age - misfires, hard starts and stiction-mimic symptoms. Test the rail first; then it is the $145 power-supply board or the $296 reman module - both before anyone sells you injectors.
Parts
- 6.0L Power Stroke FICM Power Supply (rebuild board, higher output) - the power-supply board - the sag is usually here, not in the logic section (qty 1)
- 6.0L Power Stroke FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module), complete - reman FICM (4C3Z-12B599-ABRM) - the full-module path (qty 1)
Install order
- measure 48V at crank: below spec confirms the FICM, not the injectors
- power-supply board repair where the logic section tests clean
- full reman module for the one-piece answer
Expected outcome
48V rail holds at crank; misfires and cold-start roughness gone.
Do not
- do not shotgun injectors on a sagging 48V rail - new injectors behind a weak FICM still misfire
Parts budget
About $150-$300 in parts. It depends on what the diagnosis finds; each option below is what you buy together. Prices marked "at Dave's" are Dave's Auto Center's, the same as in his store; the others are approximate prices from OEM and maker catalogs, rounded (a manufacturer's list price can run higher). Parts only, no labor.
DIY or shop: DIY: the module sits on top of the driver's-side valve cover, one connector.
