Failure mode - Ford F-150 3.0L Power Stroke V6 (2018-2021)
DPF regeneration duty and oil dilution
Reliability tier: aggregated - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/
Symptoms
- rising oil level between services (fuel dilution from post-injection regens)
- frequent/short regen cycles under city duty
Compare with the other causes of the same sign on this engine: oil leak, oil consumption or rising oil level · def, dpf and regeneration warnings (2 causes)
Root cause
The standard modern-diesel tradeoff: DPF regeneration injects fuel that dilutes the sump on short-trip duty. Community-cited for the 3.0L; VOQ records nothing - the quiet maintenance tail.
Diagnosis
- track oil level between services (rising level = dilution, not a leak); shorter change intervals under city duty
